Beyond the railheads, beyond civilisation, the towns and communities of Outback Australia rely on road transport for their survival. And in this great brown land the most efficient form of on and off-highway transport in the world has developed - the Australian Roadtrain.

This documentary is thestory of roadtrains in Outback Australia and the owners, drivers and families who keep them going. Producer Bruce Honeywill travelled more than 100,000 kilometres throughout Outback Australia over a period of eight years to collect and produce these stories.

Come for a ride in the world's biggest roadtrain - a six trailer mammoth pulling mining product from site to a remote wharf in the Northern Territory. Volvo's new Cummins powered trucks pulling three and four trailers in two operations spanning the continent of Australia, from South to North. A fleet of Freightliner roadtrains supplying all the transport needs of a huge uranium mine. Off high combinations of more than 300 tonnes pulling gold ore in the middle of the Tanami Desert. Join Clarrie Hayden in a 610 hp Mack Titan pulling more than 200 head of cattle through the Outback. A big Kenworth unit pulling four trailers supplying fuel to the gold mines of Western Australia. A Mercedes Benz roadtrain getting Christmas cheer to remote cattle stations... and more!

Bruce Honeywill is an Australian transport journalist and film maker who has reported on transport issues around the world. He has worked in television news, radio and as a magazine editor.
